MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -Freshman Charlie Ionata placed second in the hammer throw as the Wake Forest track and field team opened the outdoor season at the CCU Invitational, hosted by Coastal Carolina University.
Ionata broke the current Wake Forest outdoor school record in the hammer throw for a mark of 61.30m.
Men's Javelin
Freshman Charlie Ionata placed eighth with a mark of 53.98m, sophomore Aiden McConnell placed 12th with a mark of 51.24m and sophomore Alexander Krall placed 20th with a mark of 48.72m.
Men's Hammer Throw
Freshman Charlie Ionata led the Deacs placing in second with a mark of 61.30m. Freshman Kyle Johnson placed sixth with a throw of 55.41m and senior Nate Wooten placed tenth with a throw of 50.65m.
Women's Javelin
Freshman Alyssa Thompson secured a 13th place finish with a mark of 36.19m. Senior Erika Martin placed 16th with a mark of 35.04 and freshman Amy Collins placed 41st with a mark of 22.18m.
Women's Pole Vault
Sophomore Sydney White placed first with a mark of 3.80m and junior Katie Adair placed second with a mark of 3.80m. Freshman Madison Bragg placed fifth in a two-way tie with a mark of 3.50m.
Women's Hammer Throw
Freshman Casidy Callahan captured a second place finish with a throw of 50.25m.
Wake Forest continues competing in the CCU Invitational on Saturday with competition beginning at 10 am with the men's discus and the women's 3,000m run.
