DAVIDSON, N.C. - Wake Forest fell to Davidson 7-6 on Wednesday night as the Wildcats scored six in the sixth inning to down the Demon Deacons in non-conference play.

Wake Forest (13-9, 3-3 ACC) led 3-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning but Davidson (11-6, 3-0 Socon) responded with six runs. Charlie Morgan homered for Wake Forest in the third to put Wake Forest up 2-1 and the Deacs scored one in the sixth and seventh along with two runs in the ninth but Davidson held on for the win.

Connor Johnstone got the start on the mound for the Deacons and struck out a career-high six batters in 5.0 innings.

Evan Stephens went 3-for-5 with one RBI as Matt Conway and Grant Shambley each had two hits. Wake Forest had 12 hits in the game.

Davidson plated the first run of the game in the second inning as Sam Foy doubled to score a run. Trailing 1-0 in the top of the third, Stephens doubled with one out followed by Morgan who homered to deep left center field for his second home run of the season.

With two outs and a runner on first for Davidson in the fourth inning, a sharp liner deflected off Johnstone but went right to Conway who tagged the runner to end the inning.

In the sixth inning, Ben Breazeale walked to start the inning followed by Craig who doubled down the left field line and made an acrobatic move to make it to second. After a fielder's choice led to an out at home, a wild pitch scored Craig from third to put Wake Forest up 3-1.

Davidson though broke the game open as the Wildcats plated six runs in the sixth inning to go up 7-3 on Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons responded in the seventh inning as Stephens scored Grant Shambley on an RBI-single up the middle. The Wildcats turned a double play in the seventh to end the inning as Davidson held three-run advantage.

Wake Forest loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning as Jack Carey, Shambley and Stephens all singled with one out. Two runs scored after two errors from Davidson to make it a one-run game but the Wildcats got a pop-up to end the game and win 7-6.

Johnstone took the loss while Mark McCoy, Garrett Kelly and Matt Pirro pitched in relief. Kelly registered two strikeouts in the game.

Ty Middlebrooks has two RBIs to lead Davidson while Justin Charles earned the win.

Wake Forest is back in action on Friday as the Deacs will take on Boston College in a doubleheader. The doubleheader will begin at 11 a.m. and will be played at Northeastern University's Parsons Field.
