WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - No. 75 Wake Forest will welcome No. 59 Virginia Tech and No. 13 Miami to the Wake Forest Tennis Complex for a weekend doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday.
Both matches are set to begin at 12:00 p.m. and admission will be free for the public. There will also be free pizza and a raffle for a $25 gift card to Bib's offered during Saturday's match.
#75 Wake Forest Ends Homestand against #59 Virginia Tech, #13 Miami
• The Demon Deacons split a pair of non-conference matches last weekend, dropping a 4-3 decision against No. 71 Winthrop on Saturday before a dominant 6-1 victory over Elon on Sunday.
• Kasey Gardiner and Xue Zhang fought off two match points at No. 1 doubles against Elon to rally and claim the doubles point for Wake Forest.
• Wake Forest defeated Virginia Tech 4-3 in Blacksburg, Va., last season, but was swept 7-0 by the Hurricanes in Miami.
Top Storylines
• With Andrea Retolaza out of the lineup last weekend, Kimmy Guerin went 1-1 filling in at No. 1 singles. The freshman rebounded from a tough three-set loss on Saturday with a strong straight-sets win against Elon.
• Gardiner leads the Demon Deacons with 11 singles victories in dual play and had wins in both of her matches at No. 4 singles last weekend. Her win against Elon took just an hour for the sophomore to claim the decision.
• In spot duty for Wake Forest, Karen Forman played very well at No. 6 singles, earning wins in both of her matches. The junior is riding an eight-match winning streak dating back to the fall.
• Both of Wake Forest's top doubles teams earned their 10th dual victories last weekend. The Demon Deacons have won the doubles point in 12 of their 15 matches this season.
• Virginia Tech enters the weekend having lost three of its last four matches, including two straight against Duke and North Carolina last weekend.
• Miami is on fire as of late and is on an eight-match winning streak. Of those matches, six have come in ACC play, including impressive wins over Notre Dame and Georgia Tech.
Next Up
• Wake Forest will go on the road for a pair of ACC contests next weekend at No. 57 NC State (7-4, 1-3 ACC) and No. 22 Notre Dame (8-6, 2-4 ACC) on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
• The Demon Deacons have an all-time record of 46-6 against the Wolfpack, but are 9-12 against the Fighting Irish. Sunday's meeting will be the first between the two sides with Notre Dame as an ACC member.
