Doty Leads Deacons On Day 1 of ACC Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest redshirt-freshman Elizabeth Doty carded a 4-over 75 on Thursday to pace the Demon Deacons in the first round of the ACC Championship at Sedgefield Country Club.
Doty opened her round with a birdie at the first and then closed with a birdie at the last to post a 75. She made a total of four birdies on the round which was tied for the second-most of any player in the field. Doty started the second round in a tie for 14th place.
As a team, the Demon Deacons carded a 27-over 311 and are in 10th place through the first round. Duke and Virginia are tied for the lead at 7-over par while Miami is third at 14-over and North Carolina is fourth at 15-over. The Deacs are just five shots behind a trio of teams in fifth place.
Freshman Sierra Sims opened her first ACC Championship with a round of 6-over 77. She is tied for 27th heading into Friday. Sims' sister Mariana, who was the low-Deacon as a freshman last season, started with a round of 8-over 79.
Junior Allison Emrey is a shot behind Mariana after opening with an 80 while fellow junior Marissa Dodd came in with an 11-over 82.
Florida State's Matilda Castren was the only player in the field to break par on Thursday as she carded a 2-under 69 and leads a trio of players by two shots. The scoring average for the first round was 77.5 on the par-71, 6,107-yard layout.
Wake Forest will be in the opening wave Friday morning beginning at 8 a.m. ET. The Deacons are paired with Boston College. Golfstat.com will have live scoring of the final two rounds.
