Deacons Finish 8th At Wolfpack Spring Open

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's golf team finished eighth in the 14-team field at the Wolfpack Spring Open on Sunday after carding a round of 303 at the Lonnie Poole Golf Club.
The tournament was shortened to an 18-hole shootout due to inclement weather in the Raleigh area on Saturday. The Deacons were 15-over and finished eighth while ACC-foe Virginia won the event after a round of 4-over 292.
Individually for the Deacs, sophomore Davis Womble made four birdies and played the final nine holes in 1-under par to post a 2-over 74 and finish tied for 16th. That was his best finish of the season.
Senior Beau Cutts, who played as an individual, made three birdies and finished tied for 21st after a 3-over 75.
Freshmen Danny Guise and Clancy Waugh each carded rounds of 76 and finished tied for 26th. Waugh had three birdies in his first seven holes and briefly held a share of the lead.
Junior Cyrus Stewart and sophomore Andrew Winters rounded-out the Deacon scorers on Sunday with rounds of 76 and 77, respectively.
Senior Thomas Birdsey, who had played in every event this season and has the second-best scoring average on the team, was ill this weekend. He will be well rested as the Deacons head to Uwharrie Point and Old North State next weekend for the ACC Championship. The opening round is set for Friday, April 25.
