WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest baseball fell to UNCG on Tuesday night 4-2 at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park.
Connor Johnstone pitched 7.0 innings for Wake Forest (22-13, 10-5 ACC) and gave up just two runs and walked one batter. Joey Rodriguez had an RBI and a hit for the Deacs as UNCG (15-16) broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the eighth inning.
UNCG scored in the third off an RBI single and kept Wake Forest off the board until the sixth when a Joey Rodriguez scored on a double play. After UNCG scored one run in the seventh, the Deacs trailed2-1 in the bottom of the frame and loaded the bases and Rodriguez flew out to deep center, scoring Conor Keniry to tie it up.
The Spartans answered with two runs in the top of the eighth inning and kept Wake Forest from scoring in the final two innings, closing the game out to win 4-2.
Max Tishman took the loss while Parker Dunshee gave up just one hit in 1.2 innings pitched. Adam Swim earned the win for the Spartans.
Wake Forest is back in action on Friday night at North Carolina with a first pitch at 7 p.m.
