CLE ELUM, Wash. - The Wake Forest women's golf team came close to advancing to its first NCAA Championship since 2011 but ultimately finished in a tie for ninth at the NCAA West Regional on Saturday. The top-8 teams earned a trip to the national finals.

Wake Forest came into the final round in 10th place and just two shots out of one of the top-8 spots. A final round 314 allowed the Deacs to move into a tie for ninth at 57-over but that was seven shots behind Northwestern which finished in eighth place.

Junior Allison Emrey and freshman Sierra Sims led the Deacons this weekend as each finished tied for 31st at 13-over par. Emrey shot rounds of 75-75-79 while Sims came in with scores of 76-73-80. Sims led the team this week with a total of eight birdies.

Senior Olfia Kristinsdottir finished her Demon Deacon career with a round of 77 on Saturday. For the week, she posted scores of 79-76-77 and finished in a tie for 49th at 16-over.

Redshirt-freshman Elizabeth Doty bounced-back from an 80 on Friday with a 78 on Saturday and finished in a tie for 61st at 19-over. Junior Marissa Dodd carded a final round 83 and finished tied for 79th.

Top-seeded Southern Cal won the regional at 12-over par while host Washington came in second at 13-over. In a back-and-forth tussle for the final three qualifying spots, Iowa State, Texas A&M and Northwestern outlasted three other teams, including the Deacs, to head to Tulsa in two weeks.
