Wake Forest Tournament History:
- This will be the 24th appearance for the Demon Deacons in an NCAA Regional.
- Wake has failed to qualify for the regionals just once in the 24 years since the NCAA switched to the regional format. That was in 1999, when the Deacons were represented individually by Michael Capone.
- The Deacs have qualified for the NCAA Championships 14 times through the regional format which started back in 1989.
- The last time Wake Forest advanced through regionals was in 2009.
- Wake has three regional victories, all within the last nine years.
- The first win came at the East Regional in 2005 at the Golf Club of Tennessee when the team finished a remarkable 17-under par. Sean Moore and Kyle Reifers led the way with a pair of top-10 finishes as Moore finished tied for 3rd at 10-under and Reifers was tied for 10th at 6-under.
- A year later at the East Regional at Lake Nona Country Club, the same duo led the way to Wake's second-straight regional victory. Reifers finished fifth at 3-under par while Moore was tied for 11th at 1-over par. The Deacons won the tournament by 9-shots over Texas Tech.
- Wake's third regional victory came in 2008 when it outlasted a very strong field in adverse conditions at the Ohio State Scarlet Course. Wake won the event over No. 1-ranked Alabama and No. 3-ranked Oklahoma State. The Deacons finished at 27-over par, 10 shots ahead of the Cowboys. Brendan Gielow finished tied for second overall at 2-over after strong rounds of 69-72-74. Dustin Groves enjoyed his best tournament of the year as he finished fourth after rounds of 72-70-74.
- In all, Wake is looking to qualify for its 45th NCAA Championships.
Wake Forest Notes:
- Freshman Danny Guise, who has played in every event this season, is second on the team with a 72.72 scoring average and four top-10 finishes.
- Senior Thomas Birdsey has three top-10 finishes and is tops on the squad with a 72.43 average.
- Freshman Clancy Waugh has led the team at each of the last two events. He tied for 14th in his first ACC Championship, finishing at 2-under par. He also finished 2-under par at the Irish Creek Collegiate and tied for fifth.
- Wake opened The Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate with a 6-under 282, which was the lowest opening round of the season for the team. The Deacs went on to finish fifth in the event behind Guise' second-straight top-10 finish.
- The Deacons finished third at the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic at 2-under par. Guise finished a season-best tied for third in the event after a final round 67.
- At the San Diego Classic, all five Demon Deacons finished in the top-25. That was just the second time under head coach Jerry Haas and just the fourth time since 1986 that all five members of the team finished in the top-25.
- In the first event of the spring, Clancy Waugh fired rounds of 68-74-68 (-6) and won the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. That was the first win of his career and he became just the 11th Demon Deacons freshman to win an event.
- Wake Forest finished the fall with its best tournament of the season, a third-place showing at the US Collegiate.
- Freshman Danny Guise finished fourth overall and Thomas Birdsey finished tenth.
- That followed a fifth place finish at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate after finishing with a pair of 5-under 283s.
- Birdsey had a career tournament at the BOT, finishing runner-up at 11-under par.
- The 11-under 205 score for Birdsey at the BOT bested his previous 54-hole low by eight shots.
- Birdsey was the first Demon Deacon to shoot 11-under for a 54-hole tournament since Brendan Gielow in 2008.
- The Deacs defeated SMU at the Payne Stewart Invitational at Pinehurst No. 2, winning both the stroke play and match play portions of the event.
- Wake Forest started three freshmen at the season-opening Carpet Capital in Clancy Waugh, Danny Guise and Woody Woodward.
- That was the first time since 1999 that three Demon Deacon freshmen started the first event.
