HUTCHINSON, Kan. - Wake Forest's Cyrus Stewart finished-off his first NCAA Championship with an even-par round of 70 on Monday at the Prairie Dunes Country Club.
Four days of start and stop golf made scoring difficult. Stewart opened the championship with a round of 6-over 76 that spanned Friday and Saturday. He then carded a 2-over 72 in the second round on Sunday morning and started the third round with seven even-par holes on Sunday evening.
On Monday, Stewart made nine pars, a bogey and a birdie in his final 11 holes. That left Stewart in a tie for 89th at 8-over for the tournament.
Stanford's Cameron Wilson and Georgia Tech Ollie Schniederjans each finished at 6-under for the three rounds. Wilson then outlasted the ACC Player of the Year in a playoff, winning the individual championship on the third extra hole.
Stewart had a solid season, finishing with a 73.86 scoring average and eight rounds at par or better. His scoring average is over two strokes lower than his previous career-best which he set as a freshman in 2011-12.
