GREENVILLE, S.C. - Wake Forest junior Samantha Jones won her second-straight individual title, outdistancing the field at Saturday's Furman Classic to lead the Demon Deacons to the overall team title.

Jones turned in her first career collegiate win at the season-opening Covered Bridge Open on Aug. 29 and repeated the feat this weekend, finishing the 6k course in 21:06.65.

Jones is the first Deacon since Nicole Irving in 2011 to win multiple races in the same season.

Jones was nine seconds ahead of teammate Cate Allen, as the freshman took second place in 21:15.79. Allen has had a remarkable start to her career, also taking third at the Covered Bridge Open.

Behind Jones and Allen, the Deacons remained perfect on the season, topping the nine-team Division I field with 45 points. That total easily beat meet host Furman, who had 56, along with Auburn (58), Georgia (59) and ACC rival Clemson (141).

The Deacons had to contend with the rolling terrain at the Furman Golf Course, which a featured European-style cross country course. Competitors ran a 2k loop, hopping over a log and two hale bales each time through the loop.

Junior Kathleen Darling and sophomore Ellie Abrahamson helped Wake Forest put four runners in the top 12. Darling was fifth in 21:28.72, while Abrahamson was 12th in 22:04.29.

Senior Aubrey Waggoner rounded out the scoring five in 25th place in 22:38.76. She was four seconds ahead of sophomore Kathryn Lazarchick who placed 28th in 22:42.17.

Wake Forest returns to action in two weeks at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational on Sept. 26. The meet will be a preview of the ACC Championships, which will be held on the same course on Oct. 31.
