CHARLESTON, S.C. - Wake Forest sophomore Sierra Sims tied the 54-hole school-record as she finished second at the Cougar Classic at 10-under par.
As a team, the Demon Deacons posted a final round 293 and finished in sixth place in the loaded 23-team. Wake finished the event at 2-under par. That was time the team posted a 54-hole score under-par since it finished 6-under par at the NCAA East Regional in 2007.
Sims capped-off a career-week with a final round 1-over 73 and finished tied for second. Coupled with her record opening rounds of 65-68, the Austin, Texas native posted a 54-hole score of 10-under 206. That score ties Michelle Shin for the 54-hole school record which she set at the 2010 Mason Rudolph Challenge. For the week, Sims made 15 birdies and was second in the field in par-4 scoring at 5-under par.
Senior Allison Emrey also enjoyed her best tournament as a Demon Deacon. After starting the tournament with a career-low 69, she carded an even-par 72 on Monday and a 2-under 70 on Tuesday. In the final round, Emrey made seven birdies and led the field for the week with 17 birdies over the 54 holes. She finished in a tie for ninth at a career-best 5-under par.
Senior Marissa Dodd started her final round with a double-bogey at No. 2 but rebounded to play just 1-over the rest of the way and posted a 3-over 75. Dodd finished the week at 7-over par and tied for 48th.
Junior Mariana Sims and freshman Erica Herr each finished the tournament in a tie for 53rd at 8-over par. Herr carded a final round 75 and Sims posted a 4-over 76.
Arkansas won the team title after carding a final round 9-under 279. That put the Razorbacks at 18-under par, 7-shots better than UCLA. Individually, Duke's Sandy Choi shot rounds of 69-68-68 to claim medalist honors at 11-under par. Sierra Sims tied for second at 1-under with UCLA's Alison Lee and Bronte Law.
The Demon Deacons will look to continue their hot start next week as they head to the Lady Paladin Invitational hosted by Furman. The first round is set for Sunday, Sept. 21.
