Wake Forest freshman Will Zalatoris represented the United States at the Australian Master of the Amateurs, January 6-9. He finished tied for eighth in the field which included some of the top amateurs in the country.
Zalatoris carded a 5-under 283 (71-72-69-71) at the event, hosted at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
Zalatoris ranks fifth in the World Amateur Golf Rankings after the Australian Master of the Amateurs.
The event, which hosted Australia's top 30 amateurs, also attracted some strong college and American golfers due to its timing during winter break. The 78-man field, included four of the top 10 players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
The Plano, Texas native also took part in the Walker Cup Practice Sessions during the winter break. He had a team-best stroke average of 70.18 in the fall and earned his first collegiate win at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. Last summer, Zalatoris won the US Junior Amateur Championship and the Texas State Amateur Championship.
