CARSON, Calif. - Former Wake Forest greats Katie Stengel and Aubrey Bledsoe are set to compete in the first training camp of the year with the United States Under-23 Women's National Team at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center from Jan. 3-10.
Part of the camp runs concurrently with the full U.S. Women's National Team event and the USA coaching staff will observe training sessions.
"I'm very proud of Katie and Aubrey," Wake Forest head coach Tony da Luz said. "This is a testament to their commitment to self-training and improvement, and a step forward toward their mutual goal of reaching the full National Team and a World Cup."
Stengel has trained with the senior National Team in the past and is currently a member of Bayern Munich. In 12 appearances, Stengel has scored seven goals, tied for fourth-most in the Bundesliga, in which Bayern is in second place.
Stengel holds Wake Forest's all-time scoring records with 50 career goals and 125 career points. She has been a regular in the youth national team system and was a member of the United States team that won the 2012 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
A three-time All-American at Wake Forest, Bledsoe signed a deal with Sky Blue FC of the National Women's Soccer League in October. The NWSL regular season will kick off in March.
She finished her Wake Forest career with a number of school records including the top marks for career starts, shutouts and goals against average. Bledsoe also has experience with the U-23 squad, including competing at the Six Nations Tournament in March.
