CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Wake Forest women's cross country team, paced by a third-place finish by senior Samantha Jones, came in 12th place in a 33-team field at the NCAA Southeast Regional at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va. Friday afternoon.
Jones finished the 6k race with a time of 20:35.3, just 10 seconds off the first-place time of Coastal Carolina's Letitia Saayman. Jones, a two-time All-ACC honoree, produced the best result at a regional meet since Anna Nosenko also placed third in 2010.
The native of Randolph, N.J. added an all-region honor to her collegiate resume and was an individual qualifier for the NCAA Division I Championships in Louisville, Ky. on Nov. 21.
Virginia and NC State earned NCAA Championship berths as teams, finishing with team scores of 53 and 74, respectively. The Deacs finished with 386 team points.
Also earning points for Wake Forest were Ellie Abrahamson, Cate Allen, Isabelle Harouche and Beatrice Boylan. In a 235-runner field, Abrahamson finished in 32nd, while Allen took 84th, Harouche placed 137th and Parrish came in 142nd.
The Deacs' average time in the race was 22:29.0.
