Wake forest Hosts ETSU
The Demon Deacons host East Tennesse State University on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the LJVM Coliseum.
The game is the second of three home games in five days to open the 2015-16 season.
Wake forest Storylines
Wake Forest opened the season with a win for the 14th time in the last 16 seasons.
Freshman Ariel Stephenson scored 21 points in her collegiate debut against LSU.
Eight Demon Deacons saw action in the season-opening win over LSU. Four of the players were new to the program in freshmen Ariel Stephenson, Kortni Simmons and Destini Walker along with graduate transfer Keyonna Allen.
Newcomes were responsible for 40 of Wake Forest's 60 points in the victory of the Tigers.
The Demon Deacons were picked to finish 14th in the ACC this season by both the Blue Ribbon Panel and the coaches' preseason poll.
Wake Forest posted a 13-20 record last season with a 2-14 mark in conference play, which tied the Demon Deacons for 14th in the conference.
The Deacs made a run in the ACC Championship last year, posting victories in the first two rounds over Boston College and No. 22 Syracuse before dropping a nine-point game to Duke. With the wins, Wake Forest is the only team in the league to have won a game in the tournament each of the last seven seasons.
Wake Forest is without All-American Dearica Hamby who graduated as the program's all-time leading scorer and rebounder. Hamby was the first Deac ever selected in the WNBA Draft when she went sixth overall to the San Antonio Stars.
Last time Out
The Demon Deacons opened the 2015-16 season with a 60-57 win over LSU at home.
Wake Forest has now won the season-opener 14 of the last 16 years.
Freshman Ariel Stephenson led the Deacs with 21 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Kortni Simmons added 15 points and three assists. Simmons drained a pair of free throws with 10 second remaining to ice the game.
Series History
Wake Forest holds a 5-2 advantage in the all-time series with ETSU.
ETSU won the first two meetings between the two teams with Wake Forest claiming wins in the last five.
The two schools last met on Dec. 28, 2008, a 72-66 home win for the Demon Deacons.
