ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Wake Forest volleyball team dropped a tightly-contested match on the road against Georgia Tech Sunday afternoon, falling, 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 25-9, 23-25, 15-13), at O'Keefe Gymnasium. The Demon Deacons record dropped to 11-15 with a 3-11 mark in the ACC with the defeat.

The loss was also the Deacs' first five-set loss of the year--they were previously 4-0 in matches that went the distance.

The Deacons' day got off to an auspicious start as they erased an early 11-8 deficit with a 6-1 run in the first set. Though the Yellow Jackets would comeback to knot the score three times, Wake Forest never trailed again in the opening frame, taking seven of the last 11 points en route to a 25-22 win.

Georgia Tech seized the momentum back in the second set, however, turning a late 18-18 tie into a 25-21 victory to knot the match heading into intermission. The Yellow Jackets pulled away early out of the break, jumping out to a 9-1 lead before going on to win, 25-9.

Needing to win the fourth set to extend the match, the Demon Deacons did just that, climbing out of an early 10-6 hole with a 10-4 run. Wake Forest maintained its lead until Georgia Tech forced a late tie at 21, but a Yellow Jacket attack error and kills by Sam Boesch, Kylie Long and Matalee Reed forced a fifth set.

Reed notched another kill to start the final frame, but Georgia Tech quickly took a lead and never fell behind again. Down to match point at 14-11, Wake Forest cut the gap to one at 14-13, but the Yellow Jackets ended the match by claiming the final point.

Reed paced the Deacs with 18 kills, including six on six attacks in the first set, while Sophia Dodd recorded her second-straight double-double with 44 assists and 12 digs.

Caroline Wolf tallied 27 digs on the day to move her season total in that category to 475. She needs two more digs to become the 11th Demon Deacon to reach 1,000 for her career.

Wake Forest returns home next week when it takes on Boston College on Friday and hosts Syracuse on Sunday.
