PALOS VERDES, Calif. - Wake Forest sophomore Sierra Sims carded a final round 71 and finished tied for 6th individually to lead the Demon Deacons to a 12th place finish at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Tuesday.
The Deacons carded rounds of 296-299-302 to finish 12th in the strong 16-team field.
"Today the scoring was a challenge with firm greens and tucked pins," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "Sierra was solid all week and it was great to see her finish so well. We have some work to do but we have three weeks before the next event. It is great to get a tournament under our belt this spring."
Sims made two birdies and 14 pars in her round on Tuesday to finish with rounds of 72-72-71 and a sixth place finish. It is her third top-10 finish of the year and continues her success at the Northrop Grumman. Last year she finished tied for 12th at the same event.
Allison Emrey tied for 29th with a three-round score of 224 (74-71-79). Mariana Sims followed her opening round of 73 with rounds of 78 and 77 to finish 15-over par.
Marissa Dodd finished at 23-over, showing improvement in every round. She carded rounds of 83-78-75. Erica Herr finished with a round of 82 on Monday and tied for 78th.
Vinh-Hop Ngo competed as an individual at the Northrop Grumman and finished 18-over par (75-76-80). Baylor, one of three unranked teams in the field, came away with the win at 11-over par. They held off defending-Northrop Grumman champ Southern Cal who finish four strokes back of the lead. UCLA's Bronte Law took the individual title with a 5-under 208 (68-69-71).
Wake Forest will return to action on March 6, at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C. This will be the fourth-straight season the Demon Deacons have competed in the event.
