WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams wrap up their final weekend of regular indoor season with three meets this weekend. The Deacons will compete at the Alex Wilson Invitational, UCS Invitational, and the Virginia Tech Challenge.
"As this is the final weekend prior to the ACC Championships, we have decided to split our squads in order to help them with their final preparations," said head coach John Millar.
For the Alex Wilson Invitational, Wake Forest will only be sending the men's distance medley relay team of Kyle Graves, Simon Holden, Daniel Harrison, and Sebastian Fischbach. "I am excited to be taking the men's DMR to Notre Dame to compete at the Alex Wilson Invitational, which is the meet at which a majority of the NCAA qualifying teams routinely come from," said Millar.
The DMR team will compete on Saturday at noon. "I believe we have a very good chance at achieving a place at the NCAA meet, although, it will take all four of our guys running the best they have run all year," said Millar. "I know they are excited about competing against many of the top teams in the country on an oversized track."
The second meet Wake Forest will compete in is the UCS Invitational at the JDL Fast Track. "The majority of our distance runners will be competing at the UCS Invitational at the JDL facility here in Winston-Salem for some this is a final tune-up for next week, while it also serves as an opportunity for others to earn a spot on the roster for the ACC meet," said coach Millar.
With the ACC Championships only a week away, the Demon Deacons will send a couple of their competitors to Virginia Tech to work on the track where the championships will be hosted. "The Virginia Tech Challenge is another opportunity for our field event athletes, to become more familiar with the facility at Tech, getting used to the throwing circles and runways," explained Millar. "Hopefully, the results they achieve will give them confidence heading into next weekend."
