Campbell's Clutch Shot Lifts Deacons Past Miami

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Freshman Amber Campbell hit her second buzzer beater of the season to lift Wake Forest to a 60-59 win over Miami inside the LJVM Coliseum on Thursday night.
The second half was a back-and-forth affair with two ties and 10 lead changes. Miami took a 59-58 lead with 2:20 remaining in the game on a Michelle Woods three-pointer. Wake Forest went to work on the defensive end and forced three missed baskets including a shot clock violation with just over four seconds to play.
The Demon Deacons inbounded the ball under the Miami basket and got across half court before calling a timeout with 2.4 seconds to play. Millesa Calicott found Campbell on the inbound and the freshman knocked down her second game-winning basket of the season. Campbell also scored the game-winner with 0.3 seconds on the clock against Clemson.
Wake Forest (11-18, 2-13 ACC) turned in the most balanced scoring effort of the season to beat Miami (18-10, 8-7 ACC), a team receiving votes in the most recent USA Today Coaches Poll.
Calicott led the Demon Deacons in scoring for the third-straight game. She scored a career-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor, including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Calicott's only assist in the game came on the game-winning basket. Campbell, Ataijah Taylor and Dearica Hamby all finished the game with nine points. Hamby also had eight rebounds and two assists. Kandice Ball led all players with 11 rebounds.
The largest lead either team had was six points. The Demon Deacons' six-point advantage came with 9:53 remaining in the second half. Calicott grabbed a steal and scored on the fastbreak to give Wake Forest the 51-45 lead.
Miami answered with a 7-0 burst, capped by an Adrienne Motley three-pointer, to take the lead 52-51 with 7:28 left in the game. Calicott scored Wake Forest's next seven points to give the Deacs a 58-56 lead with just under four minutes to play.
Miami hit just one more field goal in the game, the three-pointer from Woods that set up Campbell's dramatic finish.
NOTES:
• Freshman Amber Campbell has secured both of Wake Forest's ACC wins this season with dramatic game-winning baskets. Campbell also scored the game-winner with 0.3 seconds on the clock against Clemson.
• Senior Millesa Calicott led the Demon Deacons in scoring for the third-straight game. She scored a career-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor, including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc.
• Thursday's victory snapped a three-game losing streak against Miami.
• Dearica Hamby finished the game with nine points and eight rebounds.
