Rubin Earns Upset Win, Deacons Sweep Louisville 7-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Noah Rubin picked up a signature win on Sunday upsetting the nation's No. 1-ranked singles player Sebastian Stiefelmeyer as the No. 19-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team completed a perfect sweep of No. 28 Louisville 7-0 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
Wake Forest (12-4, 2-1 ACC) completed a perfect weekend, sweeping No. 24 Florida State 7-0 on Friday and No. 28 Louisville (14-4, 2-2 ACC) 7-0 this afternoon.
The Deacons took a 1-0 lead winning the doubles point. Rubin and Jon Ho won the first match 8-2 against Stiefelmeyer and Albert Wagner at No. 2, and No. 3 duo of Romain Bogaerts and Keivon Tabrizi defeated Chris Simich and Van Damrongsri 8-2 to clinch the point.
Maksim Kan and Skander Mansouri got singles off to a strong start winning on courts six and four to extend Wake Forest's lead 3-0. Christian Seraphim then clinched the victory for the Demon Deacons with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Simich at No. 5 singles and Wake Forest led 4-0.
No. 12-ranked singles player Bogaerts won another match against a ranked opponent, defeating No. 106 Wagner 6-2, 6-0 to give the Deacons a 5-0 lead.
Rubin had an impressive showing defeat No. 1-ranked Stiefelmeyer. After rolling 6-1 in the first set, the two battled for a close second, which went to a second set tiebreak. Rubin prevailed with a 7-1 win in the tiebreak to secure the 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) upset win.
At No. 3 singles, Ho completed the perfect day for the Deacons defeating Alex Gornet 6-1, 6-3 as Wake Forest swept Louisville 7-0.
The Demon Deacons are back in action on Friday, March 20, as they host the Virginia Tech Hokies at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex, starting at 4 p.m.
