Zalatoris Leads Wake Forest at ACC Championship

NEW LONDON, N.C. - Freshman Will Zalatoris fired a 3-under 69 to lead Wake Forest in the first round of the 2015 ACC Men's Golf Championship at the Old North State Club.
Zalatoris is tied for fourth at the end of the opening round. He carded a 3-under 69 with five birdies, including three on the back nine. Zalatoris birdied two of the final three holes to drop to 3-under. He is just two strokes back of the individual leader, Anders Albertson from Georgia Tech.
As a team, Wake Forest is in ninth place at 11-over with a score of 299. Clemson (281) is 7-under and in the lead, with Florida State (282) close behind. Virginia (283) is in third and Georgia Tech (284) and Virginia Tech (284) are tied for fourth.
Junior Davis Womble followed his win at Yale with a 73 on Friday. Womble carded a birdie on 18 to finish the day 1-over. He is tied for 23rd in the individual standings.
Freshman Tanner Owen finished the opening round at 6-over. After a birdie on the ninth hole he was 4-over at the turn. He went 2-over on the back nine to register a 78 for the day. Freshman Paul McBride turned in a 7-over 79. Sophomore Danny Guise opened the round with birdies on the first two holes but struggled throughout the round and finished with an 81.
Saturday's second round will begin at 9:30 a.m. for the Demon Deacons. Wake Forest is paired with Duke and North Carolina.
