
Wake Forest Completes Day One of ACC Championships

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Wake Forest track and field teams completed the first day of the 2015 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday at Mike Long Track.
Charlie Ionata led the way for the men scoring and finishing sixth place in the hammer throw with a distance of 62.72m (205-9). With his sixth place finish, Ionata earns All-ACC Second Team honors for the second consecutive season. With his finish, Ionata scored three points for the Deacons on the men's side.
In addition to Ionata, Simon Holden had a strong first place finish in the preliminaries of the men's 1,500m to qualify for the finals that will take place on Saturday. Sebastian Fischbach will be joining Holden on Saturday as he finished with the third-best time in the preliminary round.
Alexander Krall completed five events of the decathlon and is in 12th place after day one. The first day of competition included the 100m dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400m.
Kathleen Darling led the way for the women scoring their only points on day one with a fourth place finish in the 10,000m run. She earns All-ACC Second Team honors with her finish and scored five points for the Deacons.
Kathryn Lazarchick had a strong showing in the 1,500m run finishing 10th in the preliminaries and qualifying for the finals. She crossed the finish line with a time of 4:23.40 to qualify.
Amy Collins had some strong personal performances in her first day competing in four events in the heptathlon. Collins made a huge stride setting a new personal best in the shot put during the heptathlon with a distance of 10.30m (33-9.5). Her previous personal record was 9.59m (31-5.75), which she set last season. She currently sits in 12th after day one.
After the first day, the women have a total of five points and are in a tie for 10th place as a team. The men have three points and are in 10th in the team rankings.
The 2015 ACC Outdoor Championships continues tomorrow with day two of competition. The day will begin with the women's javelin throw at 10 a.m., followed by the decathlon at 11:15 a.m. All of the evening events will be shown live on ESPN3 at 7 p.m.
