WACO, Texas - Wake Forest's Noah Rubin continued his historic run in the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship on Saturday with a 6-7 (7), 6-2, 6-2 victory over No. 23 Jared Hiltzik of Illinois.
The victory pushes Rubin into the Final Four, which will be played on Sunday. The sixth-ranked player in the ITA singles poll and No. 7-seed in the tournament will take on No. 19 Thai-Son Kwiatkowski of Virginia, who topped No. 17 Winston Lin of Columbia in three sets in the Elite Eight.
Against Hiltzik, the pair battled back and forth in the first set before Hiltzik ultimately won the tiebreaker, but Rubin jumped out of the gate in the second set and never let off the gas pedal on the way to finishing the match winning 12 games to Hiltzik's four in the final two sets.
Saturday's contest was moved indoors to the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center at Baylor due to weather. Sunday's match is slated to be played outdoors at 1 p.m. ET (12 p.m. CT).
With four wins in this year's tournament, Rubin has advanced further than any previous Demon Deacon in the tournament. Prior to this season, only three Deacs had advanced past the first round, including Romain Bogaerts, who reached the second round this year as well before falling in the Round of 32. All four players in the Final Four are from ACC schools, as the other semifinal features Ryan Shane of Virginia and Quentin Monaghan of Notre Dame.
