Women's Golf Runs Out of Daylight at NCAA Championship

BRADENTON, Fla. - Wake Forest's third round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championship at Concession Golf Club was halted due to darkness. The third round will be completed on Monday at 7:30 a.m.
The Demon Deacons currently sit in 14th place and need to finish in the top 15 to continue play on Monday. After the third round in completed the top 15 teams and nine individuals (not on advancing teams) will play a final 18 holes to determine the individual champion and the top eight teams that will advance to match play. On May 26 there will be 36 holes of match play and then the match play championship will take place May 27.
Wake Forest hit the course on Sunday morning to complete the second round. After 36 holes the Demon Deacons were tied for 20th. During the third round they climbed above the cut line to 14th before play was stopped due to darkness. The team's ran out of daylight after a weather delay stopped play for an hour in the afternoon.
Southern California, Duke and Arizona are the top three teams. USC and Duke both have to complete the third round on Monday morning. Wake Forest is one stroke behind 13th-place South Carolina and one stroke ahead of Alabama. Alabama's Emma Talley is the individual leader with a one-stroke lead on Arizona State's Monica Vaughn.
Senior Marissa Dodd is just outside the top 10 with five holes remaining in the third round. She made the turn at 2-under but bogeyed three of the four holes she completed after the turn. She is tied for 11th at 6-over for the tournament. She has turned in rounds of 72 and 77 to start the weekend.
Sophomore Sierra Sims is 1-under in the third round with two holes to play. She carded an eagle on 17 and a birdie on five to sit at 1-under when play was stopped. After round of 78 and 84 she is 17-over and tied for 57th.
Senior Allison Emrey is the only Demon Deacon to finish the third round before play was stopped. She finished with a 1-over 73, showing improvement from her first two rounds (79 and 87). She is 23-over to finish the opening three rounds.
Junior Mariana Sims is 5-over with three holes to play on Monday morning. She followed an opening-round 81 with an impressive 78 in the second round. She is currently 20-over.
Freshman Erica Herr bogeyed her final hole before running out of daylight to sit 8-over with two holes to complete in the third round. She has turned in rounds of 82 and 81 this weekend.
The third round will be completed at 7:30 a.m. on Monday. Playoffs, if necessary to determine the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team, will take place immediately after confirmation of scores. Round four of the championship, the final round of stroke play, will begin at 10:50 a.m. The 72-hole individual stroke play champion will be determined. Following the fourth round, the top eight teams then compete in match play for the championship.
