OMAHA, Neb. -- Wake Forest sophomore Will Craig blasted 30 total home runs, finishing as the runner-up at the 2015 College Home Run Derby at TD Ameritrade Park on Thursday night.
Craig was the first hitter of the competition and was slow out of the gate, reaching five outs with one homer. He reeled off seven more bombs, including on the money ball which was worth two, to finish the first round with nine and advance to round two.
After a two-hour wait since taking his first-round hacks, Craig was the final hitter to bat in round two. Needing at least 14 homers to tie and 15 to clinch a spot in the finals, the Johnson City, Tennessee native blasted 16 over the fence in the second round, leaping into first place and clinching a spot in the final.
North Dakota's Jeff Campbell hit first in the final round and set the bar with 10 home runs. Craig drilled five more in the first six outs, but was unable to clear the fence again.
Campbell finished with 34 total homers to claim the event title.
