Herr, Kupcho Qualified for U.S. Women's Amateur

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Two members of the Wake Forest women's golf team qualified for the 115th annual U.S. Women's Amateur. Rising sophomore Erica Herr and incoming freshman Jennifer Kupcho qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur which is being played in Portland, Ore.
The 115th annual U.S. Women's Amateur started Aug. 10 and goes until Aug. 16 at Portland Golf Club in Oregon.
On July 8 in Bethesda, Maryland, Herr carded a 1-under par 70 at Kenwood Golf & Country Club (par 71, 5,502 yards), beating out Australian competitor Elizabeth Elmassian (71) by one stroke and Kim Mitchell (72), a rising senior at Western Carolina, by two strokes.
In the first round of stroke play on Monday, Herr carded a 1-under 71 and is tied for eighth place with 10 other golfers.
Kupcho finished second at the Westminster, Colo. Qualifier played at The Heritage Golf Course at Westmoor. She carded a 69 to finish second at the site, two strokes behind Courtney Dow.
On Monday she finished the first round of stroke play with a 3-over 75 and it tied for 70th.
After 36 holes of stroke play the field of 155 players will be reduced to 64 for match play, which begins Wednesday. The 36-hole championship match will be played Sunday.
