WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's and women's cross country teams will be in action Saturday at the third annual Furman Classic, held at the Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C. The women will compete in the 6K race at 8:30 a.m., followed by the men in the 8K race at 9:15 a.m.
The Demon Deacon women look to repeat as champion of the event, having taken the crown last season. Senior Samantha Jones is the defending individual champion of the meet. The men's team will be looking to improve upon a third place finish at last year's Furman Classic.
Both teams opened the 2015 season last week by sending a limited roster to the Elon Open. The women won the four-team meet with Elon, High Point and UNCG. The Demon Deacons had three freshmen finish in the top-six individually as Elizabeth Parrish crossed third place, just ahead of teammates Meredith Smith and Jenna Truedson in fourth and sixth, respectively. The men finished second behind High Point as Simon Holden was second overall to lead the squad.
Both the men's and women's teams will field full lineups for this week's meet at Furman.
