Wake Forest Continues ACC Play at Home
• The Demon Deacons will take on the Virginia Cavaliers for the second time this season on Friday, Oct. 14. The match will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Summit School.
• Wake Forest is in the middle of a six-match homestand that began Oct. 7 with Virginia Tech and will end Oct. 23 with Clemson.
• The Demon Deacons are 1-2 during the stay following a 3-0 loss to Virginia Tech, a 3-1 win over Pittsburgh and a 3-2 loss to Duke.
Series Notes
• The Demon Deacons collected their first conference win of the season over the Cavaliers on Sept. 23. The final score was 3-1.
• Historically, the Cavs lead the Demon Deacons, 26-21, though the teams have split their last four meetings, 2-2.
• The squads are tied on Wake Forest territory with each team posting 11 wins.
• The Demon Deacons have not won two matches against Virginia in the same season since 2003.
Scouting the Cavaliers
• Virginia picked up its first ACC win Saturday, Oct. 8, with a 3-0 sweep at Clemson. The Cavaliers are 1-5 in conference play this season.
• Haley Kole leads the Cavs with 203 kills this season. Her 3.17 kills/set average is good for 10th in the conference. Kole finished the match against Clemson with 10 kills, her ninth double-digit match of the season.
• Freshman Chino Anukwuem has had a strong presence at the net with a combined 61 blocks this season. Virginia is ranked fourth in the conference for blocks with a 2.77 blocks/set average.
Last Time Out
• Wake Forest fell to Duke, 3-2, in a nail-biter of a match Wednesday, Oct. 12.
• The Deacs took the first and third sets while the Blue Devil took sets two and four.
• Wake Forest reached the eight-point mark first in the fifth set but the Blue Devils ultimately took the set 15-12. Wake Forest is now 0-5 in five-set matches and 0-4 when reaching the eight-point mark first.
• Katie Moore and Caitlyn Della recorded career-highs in kills with 14 and 13, respectively. Caitlin Clarke and Bailey Shurbet tallied new career-bests in digs with 15 and 19, respectively.
Next Up
• Wake Forest concludes its homestand with Georgia Tech and Clemson on Oct. 21 and 23 at 6:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. The Georgia Tech match will be shown on ACC Network Extra.
• The Demon Deacons then head north to play at Syracuse and Boston College Oct. 28 and 30.
