DEACS OPEN PLAY IN CHARLESTON AGAINST UTEP
• Wake Forest plays away from home for the first time this season as it travels to the Gildan Charleston Classic, playing UTEP in the opening round
• It is Wake Forest's first appearance in the tournament and its first game in the city of Charleston since an 86-52 win at The Citadel on Nov. 25, 1996, highlighted by 21 points and 12 rebounds from Tim Duncan
• The Deacs are looking to open a season 3-0 for the first time since 2013-14
• The Deacs are opening the year with five games in 10 days, their most games over the first 10 days of the season since the 1996-97 season (also five games in 10 days)
SERIES HISTORY
• Wake Forest and UTEP have split the two previous meetings, both in tournaments
• The last meeting came in 2008-09, as the Deacs defeated UTEP 82-79 in the semifinals of the 76 Classic in Anaheim, Calif., which was Wake Forest's last tournament title
• The first meeting of the series was in 1984-85 when the Miners posted a 90-75 home win over the Deacs in the Sun Bowl Classic
• Wake Forest head coach Danny Manning was 3-0 against UTEP while the head coach of Tulsa
LAST TIME OUT
• Wake Forest concluded the opening weekend of the season with a 94-74 win over Bucknell
• Keyshawn Woods came off the bench to score a career-high 22 points on 8-9 FGs and 5-6 3FGs
• John Collins posted a career-high for the second straight game, scoring 19 points to go with a game-high nine rebounds
• Mitchell Wilbekin (13pts), Dinos Mitoglou (11pts) and Austin Arians (10pts) also scored in double figures
