HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Wake Forest closed out 2016 and its nonconference portion of the schedule Saturday, Dec. 31, as the Demon Deacons fell to James Madison, 83-76, at the JMU Convocation Center.

Milan Quinn tallied her fifth double-double of the season as she ended with 12 points and 16 rebounds. For the senior, it is the 16th in her career and the 16 double-doubles moves Quinn into a tie for fourth all-time in career double-doubles at Wake Forest.

Four other Demon Deacons scored in double figures as Elisa Penna, Ariel Stephenson, Alex Sharp and Amber Campbell all topped the 10-point mark.

Penna tallied her third-straight double figure game as she ended with 18 points and seven rebounds while Stephenson added 17 points and a career-high six steals. Sharp matched her career-high with 12 points while adding nine rebounds and five assists. Campbell rounded out the Deacs' top scorers with 11 points and four rebounds.

The Demon Deacons (9-4) trailed by as many as 17 points in the fourth quarter before mounting a comeback in the closing minutes against JMU (7-4). Wake Forest went on a 16-4 run to trim the deficit to five with 2:37 to play. The Deacs would get within five once more down the stretch, but no closer, and the Dukes would hold on for the victory.

Saturday's contest was back-and-forth in the opening half as JMU went to the locker room with a slim 38-35 lead over the Deacs. Over the course of the first 20 minutes, each team led by as many as five points but were unable to extend the lead any further. Quinn was well on her way to her fifth double-double of the year as she had eight points and nine rebounds in the opening half.

JMU pulled away from the Deacs in the third quarter, outscoring Wake Forest 19-11 in the frame thanks to a 7-0 run to build an eight-point advantage heading into the fourth. The Dukes led by double figures before Wake Forest made its late push in the fourth quarter.

Wake Forest rings in the new year and the start of ACC play on Thursday, Jan. 5, as Wake Forest goes on the road to take on Notre Dame. Tip-off in South Bend is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
