GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest women's cross country senior Samantha Jones and junior Ellie Abrahamson were named to the 2015 All-ACC Academic Cross Country Team as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference office on Wednesday.
Jones was one of four women's runners to be honored for a third time. Abrahamson earned the accolade for the first time.
In her final collegiate cross country season, Jones earned All-American status by finishing 34th at the NCAA Championships with a 20:22.8 6k time. The Randolph, N.J. native was Wake Forest's first All-American in cross country since 2006 and became the school's first NCAA Championships qualifier since 2010 by placing third at the NCAA Southeast Regional.
In addition to garnering her All-American and all-region accolades, she picked up her second All-ACC nod by placing sixth at the ACC Championships with a season-best 20:22.5 time in the 6k. She is a communications major.
Abrahamson had a breakout campaign for the Demon Deacons in 2015. The Carlsbad, Calif. native competed in six meets, posting two top-10 finishes and three top-20 finishes. She won the Wake Forest Invitational, finishing the 6k in 21:18.42 and took seventh with a 21:21.76 time at the Furman Classic.
A 21:13.0 mark in the ACC Championships was Abrahamson's best 6k time of the season. After taking 34th at the conference meet, she had a 32nd-place showing at the NCAA Southeast Regional. She is majoring in business enterprise.
Fourteen of the 15 ACC schools were represented on this year's all-conference academic team with Molly Seidel taking the honor of 2015 ACC Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season were also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
