Annichiarico Opens Virginia Tech Challenge

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Sophomore Luke Annichiarico of the the Wake Forest men's track and field team was the lone Demon Deacon to open up competition at the Virginia Tech Challenge on Friday, taking part in the men's unseeded pole vault competition at the Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va.
Annichiarico placed eighth with a vault of 4.60m, tying with Greg Gallagher of William & Mary. The 4.60m mark was 0.10m shy of a matching personal record.
Competing Saturday in Blacksburg will be fellow men's pole vaulter Michael Cyphers and women's pole vaulters Sydney White, Kathleen Adair and Tesia Kempski. Alexandria Florent will participate in the high jump.
In addition, 15 Deacon men will take part in seven events and 14 Deacon women are set to compete in eight events at the UCS Invitational on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem to conclude regular-season action.
The Deacs will resume competition at next week's ACC Indoor Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, Mass.
