Deacs Bounce Back With Three Wins

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The fifth-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team bounced back from a loss to Texas on Saturday with three wins on Sunday at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. The Demon Deacons blanked No. 6 Texas Tech, 4-0, and defeated Norfolk State by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
The match against the Red Raiders was the first top-10 showdown in Winston-Salem since 2007. The victory was the Deacons' fourth this season against a team ranked sixth or higher. The trio of wins improved their record on the season to 12-3.
No. 5 Wake Forest 4, No. 6 Texas Tech 0
Wake Forest started the day by overcoming an early disadvantage in the doubles competition to win, 4-0.
After the dropping No. 3 doubles, the Deacs evened the competition when Petros Chrysochos and Jon Ho took down No. 56 Alex Sendegeya and Bjorn Thomson, 6-4. Moments later, No. 21 Christian Seraphim and Skander Mansouri finished an upset of the second-ranked tandem in the nation, Hugo Dojas and Felipe Soares, by the same score to secure the 1-0 lead.
In singles, Dennis Uspensky quickly padded Wake Forest's lead with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5.
To seal the win, Chrysochos and Mansouri made big second-set rallies. After winning the opening frame at No. 2, 6-2, Chrysochos negated a 4-1 deficit in the second set to win 6-4 against the No. 97 Dojas. Mansouri erased an even bigger Red Raider lead to down No. 18 Soares at No. 1. Following a 6-1 win in the opening set, the Tunis, Tunisia native won six-straight games in the second set to dig himself out of a 5-1 hole to win, 7-5.
Seraphim, Ho and Romain Bogaerts had their singles matches stopped short due to the team win.

The Demon Deacons won their second match of the day against an undermanned Norfolk State squad. The contest began in singles, where the Spartans defaulted at No. 6 with only five players traveling for the match.
Starting with a 1-0 lead, Romain Bogaerts, Jon Ho and Maksim Kan secured the win with victories at position Nos. 1, 2 and 4, respectively. Dennis Uspensky won at No. 3 and Keivon Tabrizi followed with a triumph at No. 5 to complete the shutout.
The teams forewent the doubles competition after the Deacons clinched the win in singles play.

The Deacs and Spartans began their second match with a doubles competition. Wake Forest took both matches by 6-3 scores. Romain Bogaerts and Dennis Uspensky finished first at the top spot before Anthony Delcore and Sam Bloom made it 1-0 by taking the win at the second position.
In singles, Keivon Tabrizi won in straight sets at No. 1 to make it 3-0 after Norfolk State was forced to default at No. 6. Maksim Kan clinched the victory by defeating Flavian Fernandez at No. 2.
Bloom and Skander Mansouri ran the score to 6-0 by winning their singles matches before the Spartans got on the board when Antonio Pejic prevailed in three sets at No. 4.
