GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest men's tennis sophomore Skander Mansouri has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday evening.
The honor is the second of its kind in Mansouri's career. He also won it on Feb. 2 after he defeated two top-70 singles opponents in road matches against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
Last weekend, Mansouri helped Wake Forest go 3-1 over a two-day stretch that included a 4-0 win over No. 6 Texas Tech in the first top-10 showdown in Winston-Salem since 2007. He went 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles.
Against Texas on Saturday, Mansouri paired with Christian Seraphim to upend the No. 44-ranked doubles duo of Adrian Ortiz and Michael Riechmann at No. 1 before claiming the No. 2 singles point with a comeback, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 win over Harrison Scott.
In the win over the Red Raiders, Mansouri and Seraphim took down No. 2 Hugo Dojas and Felipe Soares to clinch the doubles point. The Tunis, Tunisia native then defeated the 18th-ranked Soares, 6-1, 7-5, at the No. 1 singles spot. In that match, he trailed 5-1 in the second set and won six-straight games to complete the victory.
He also earned a straight-set win over Norfolk State's Fatehdeep Singh to cap the weekend.
On the spring, Mansouri is now 4-1 against ranked singles opponents and is 9-4 in such matches overall in 2015-16. With Seraphim, he has five wins over ranked doubles tandems in dual-match play. His overall records are 21-5 in singles and 13-10 in doubles. In dual-match play, he is 9-2 in singles and 8-5 in doubles.
The Demon Deacons will open ACC play on Friday against Georgia Tech before playing a doubleheader on Sunday against NC State and Tennessee Tech. The team's season-long, 12-match homestand will be closed out with matches against Boston College, Notre Dame, Morehead State, Clemson and South Carolina State.
