Deacs Visit Notre Dame, Host Sunday Doubleheader
• No. 29 Wake Forest continues its dual match season this week with a trip to No. 38 Notre Dame and home contests against 10th-ranked Virginia and East Carolina.
• The Demon Deacons are will play at the Fighting Irish on Friday at 3:30 p.m. before hosting a doubleheader Sunday in which they will face the Cavaliers at 10 a.m. and the Pirates at 4:30 p.m.
Last Time Out
• Wake Forest dropped back-to-back matches for the first time all season last week. The Deacs fell, 7-0, to No. 4 North Carolina and 5-2 to No. 34 Georgia Tech. Both matches were played on the road.
• The Deacons got their points against Georgia Tech from doubles wins by Emma Davis and Samantha Asch and Luisa Fernandez and Andrea Retolaza Andrade, as well as a singles victory at No. 5 by Asch. Asch was also the lone Deac to force a third set in singles against the Tar Heels.
100-Win Club
• With her singles victory against Appalachian State, Luisa Fernandez became the 38th player in program history to reach 100-career wins in singles and doubles combined.
• Fernandez became the fourth current Demon Deacon to reach the milestone, joining Kimmy Guerin, Kasey Gardiner and Xue Zhang.
• Samantha Asch currently has 98-career wins after her wins in singles and doubles against Georgia Tech last Sunday.
Deacs in the Rankings
• Wake Forest's 12-4 start with a 4-4 mark against ranked teams has the Deacs ranked No. 29 after starting the season at No. 71.
• Kimmy Guerin is the Deacons' lone nationally-ranked singles player at No. 50, the highest ranking of her career. She is 13-3 on the spring, including 12-3 at the No. 1 spot with four wins over ranked opponents. She was named the ACC Player of the Week on Feb. 16, earning the honor for the second time as a Deacon.
• Anna Ulyashchenko (No. 8), Emma Davis (No. 11) and Samantha Asch (No. 17) are ranked in singles in the Carolina Region. The Deacs' three regionally ranked players is a first for the team since the ITA went from eight to 12 regions in 2009-2010. Andrea Retolaza Andrade and Luisa Fernandez were slotted at No. 7 regionally in doubles.
Hot Start
• The Demon Deacons started the season 9-0, marking the best start in program history. They passed their previous team record of seven-straight wins to start a season set in 2014.
• Wake Forest has 12 wins through its first 16 matches for the 10th time in program history and for the first time since 2008-09.
Up Next
• Wake Forest concludes a four-match homestand next weekend with ACC contests against Pittsburgh and Duke.
• The Deacs will finish out their regular-season schedule in April with five conference matches, including home tilts against Miami and Florida State.
