BATON ROUGE, La. – The Wake Forest women's golf team opened play Sunday at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic at The University Club. The Demon Deacons shot 23-over during the first round and are tied for 10th place after 18 holes.
The field, which includes nine top-50 teams, saw challenging conditions as no team and just one individual broke par. The Demon Deacons were led by a pair of freshmen as Jennifer Kupcho and Ines Laklalech are tied for 20th place individually after 4-over rounds of 76.
"The course played tough with steady winds of 15-20 mph," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "Our students hit a lot of good shots, but misplayed the wind on a few holes. That resulted in some big numbers. We learned a lot today and will use those lessons tomorrow."
Antonia Eberhard had a 7-over round of 79 and Sierra Sims had an 8-over round of 80 to round out the scoring four for the Demon Deacons. Erica Herr shot a 10-over round of 82.
The LSU Tiger Golf Classic continues through Tuesday.
