RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State, this Friday and Saturday at the Paul Derr Track in Raleigh, N.C.
The Demon Deacons have 10 men entered in eight different events and 13 women set to compete in 13 different events at the meet.
Last year at the Raleigh Relays, the Deacons posted seven top-five finishes, headlined by Charlie Ionata's title in the men's hammer throw, in which he used a school-record 63.13m toss to come out on top.
Ionata was also one of five Wake Forest competitors to win an event at last weekend's outdoor season-opening Wake Forest Open. Ionata won the men's hammer, while on the women's side, Alexandria Florent won the high jump, Sydney White won the pole vault, Jessie Merckle took the javelin and Kathryn Lazarchick finished first in the 800m.
Florent's personal-record mark of 1.78m in the high jump was 5.75 inches better than that of the next closest competitor and tied highest national mark for the opening week of the outdoor season. The effort earned her ACC Women's Co-Field Performer of the Week honors.
Following this weekend, the Deacs will resume action by sending representatives to the High Point VertKlasse Meeting and the Florida Relays next week.
