Deacs Close Out Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – Eleven members of the Wake Forest men's and women's track and field programs competed on the final day of the Raleigh Relays at the Paul Derr Track in Raleigh, N.C.
Four Demon Deacons placed in the top 10 in their respective events, highlighted by a third-place showing in the men's hammer throw by Charlie Ionata. Ionata led a trio of Deacons with a toss of 63.03. He was followed by teammates Kyle Johnson and John Maurins who placed 12th and 14th, respectively, in the field of 24.
On the women's side, a pair of seventh-place finishes in hurdles events highlighted the Deacs' day.
After qualifying for the final in the 100m hurdles by placing eighth in the preliminaries on Friday, Hunter Roberts came in seventh on Saturday with a time of 13.94. In the women's 400m hurdles, Mia Wilson posted a personal record time of 1:02:00 to take seventh, as well.
Tesia Kempski placed 10th in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.65m, while Alva Hicks led three Demon Deacons in the women's hammer throw in her collegiate debut in the event. She finished 14th in a field of 37 with a throw of 50.96m.
The Deacs will resume action by sending representatives to the High Point VertKlasse Meeting and the Florida Relays next week.
