TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 13 Wake Forest men's tennis team matched its longest win streak since 2002 by defeating 20th-ranked Florida State, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The Demon Deacons handed the Seminoles their first loss in 11 home matches this season and earned their ninth victory in a row.
With the win, the Deacons improved to 22-4 on the year, including 6-1 in the ACC and 13-4 against ranked foes.
Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim started the match by upending No. 11 Benjamin Lock and Marco Nunez, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles for their sixth win over a ranked tandem.
Florida State responded with a 6-3 win at No. 3, but Petros Chrysochos and Jon Ho outlasted No. 59 Aziz Dougaz and Michael Rinaldi in a 7-3 tiebreaker at No. 2 to give Wake Forest the doubles point.
In singles, Seraphim cushioned the Deacons' lead by cruising to a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5. The Munich, Germany native has now won his last nine singles matches in straight sets to improve to 29-8 on the year. He leads the team in singles wins.
At No. 6 singles, Dennis Uspensky downed Terrance Whitehurst, 6-2, 6-2, to make it 3-0 before fellow freshman Petros Chrysochos used his fifth win over a ranked foe to secure the team victory. Chrysochos dispatched No. 60 Marco Nunez, 6-4, 6-1, to improve to 15-2 in his collegiate career.
The Seminoles got on the board with a straight-set win at No. 3 to make it 4-1, but the Demon Deacons finished the afternoon with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 win by Mansouri over No. 12 Lock at No. 1 and a three-set win by Romain Bogaerts at No. 4 to make it a 6-1 final.
Mansouri's win improved his record against ranked singles opponents on the spring to 7-1. The sophomore is now 26-5 in 2015-16. Bogaerts' win was the 98th of his career.
Chrysochos' win at No. 2 was the Deacs' 59th team point in a row. They had won their previous eight matches by 7-0 scores entering Sunday.
