Wake Forest men's tennis freshman Petros Chrysochos and sophomore Skander Mansouri both competed for their respective countries at the Davis Cup last week.
Chrysochos, who currently holds an ATP ranking of 573, aided his home country of Cyprus in being promoted from Europe Zone Group III to the second group with four wins at the Tere Tennis Centre in Tallinn, Estonia.
The Cypriots defeated Iceland, Andorra and Montenegro in the round-robin phase of the weekend to earn a knockout round meeting with Ireland with a promotion on the line.
In that match, Chrysochos completed a perfect 4-0 week of singles play by defeating Peter Bothwell, 6-1, 2-6, 6-0. Fellow countryman Marcos Baghdatis then took down Sam Berry to seal Cyprus' ascension into Europe Zone Group II.
Mansouri did not play in singles in his lone Davis Cup match, but paired with Malek Jaziri in doubles for Tunisia, which played at the Gradska Arena Zenica in Zenica, Bosnia & Herzegovina. Mansouri and Jaziri came up short against the Bosnian duo of Mirza Basic and Tomislav Brkic after building a two-set lead, dropping a 6-7 (2), 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 decision.
The Tunisians fell short against Bosnia & Herzegovina, 3-1, in their Europe/Africa Group II first-round match and will play a playoff relegation match against Bulgaria in July.
Both Mansouri and Chrysochos, ranked 25th and 34th nationally in singles, respectively, are set to return to the Demon Deacons' lineup this weekend when they continue a 12-match homestand against Boston College, Notre Dame and Morehead State.
