Deacs Continue 12-Match Homestand
After a 14-4 start, No. 9-ranked Wake Forest continues a season-long, 13-match homestand this weekend with matches against Pfeiffer, Boston College, No. 38 Notre Dame and Morehead State.
The Demon Deacons start the week against Pfeiffer on Friday at noon before playing Boston College at 4 p.m. They play a doubleheader on Sunday, taking on the Irish at noon and Morehead State at 5 p.m.
Last Time Out
Playing without Davis Cup competitors Petros Chrysochos and Skander Mansouri, Wake Forest went 2-1 last week. The Deacons opened ACC play with a 5-2 victory against Georgia Tech on Friday, dropped a tightly-contested 4-3 decision to NC State on Sunday and closed out the week with a 7-0 sweep of Tennessee Tech.
Christian Seraphim was dominant on the weekend, going 3-0 in both singles and doubles. After playing at the No. 6 singles position in the team's first 13 matches, Seraphim moved up to No. 4 last week and did not drop more than two games in a set in his three victories.
Maksim Kan also won three times in straight sets, improving to 7-0 on the spring.
Deacs at the Davis Cup
Demon Deacon freshman Petros Chrysochos and sophomore Skander Mansouri both competed for their respective countries at the Davis Cup last week.
Representing Cyprus, Chrysochos went 4-0 in singles to help his country advance from Europe Zone Group III to Europe Zone Group II.
Mansouri dropped his lone match for Tunisia, a five-set doubles contest.
Deacs in the Top 10
After a strong start to the season, the Deacons moved in to the top 10 of the national rankings for the first time since 2007. Their No. 5 ranking held the weeks of Feb. 17 and Feb. 23 was their highest in program history. They are now No. 9.
Wake Forest began the season with its highest preseason ranking in program history at No. 11 after making its third Sweet 16 appearance a year ago.
Mansouri Moves Up
Skander Mansouri has had a strong start to the spring, going 9-2 in singles, including 4-2 at No. 1, 4-0 at No. 2 and 4-1 against ranked opponents.
The sophomore has won the ACC Player of the Week two times and now has the highest singles rankings of his career at No. 19.
Paired with Christian Seraphim, Mansouri is also No. 19 in doubles. The duo is 8-5 at the No. 1 position with five wins against ranked tandems.
Also ranked in singles for the Deacons is Petros Chrysochos, who checks in at No. 45 after a 9-2 start. Romain Bogaerts and Maksim Kan have not played together in the spring, but are ranked 41st in doubles.
Up Next
The Demon Deacons wrap up their homestand next Sunday with a doubleheader, featuring matches against Clemson and South Carolina State.
Wake Forest will then play four-consecutive ACC matches on the road.
