GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest track and field senior Samantha Jones and junior Simon Holden were named to the 2015-16 All-ACC Academic Women's and Men's Indoor Track & Field Teams, respectively, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Jones, a communications major, won two event titles in the indoor track and field season and garnered Second Team All-ACC status by placing fifth in the 5,000m at the conference meet. The all-league honor was the second of her career and came off the heels of an All-American cross country season.
The Randolph, N.J. native also earned all-conference honors for the second time and added an all-region plaudit in the fall as a cross country runner.
Holden, a mathematical statistics major, garnered All-ACC Academic Team status for the second time in his career after being named to the 2015 All-ACC Academic Outdoor Team. Like Jones, Holden was a Second Team All-ACC honoree this season. Holden accomplished the feat by taking fifth in the 800m with a time of 1:48.77 at the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The native of Lookout Mountain, Ga. was also a 2015 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team member and entered the indoor season with two-career all-conference awards.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
The Demon Deacons will next compete on May 7 at the Appalachian State Invitational in Boone, N.C. That meet will be their final competition before the ACC Outdoor Championships.
