WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wednesday night's contest between Wake Forest and Elon was rained out in the top of the fourth inning at David F. Couch Ballpark. No plans were made to make up the game.
At the time the game was stopped, Elon (20-22) was leading the Deacs (27-17), 5-3.
The Phoenix had eight hits through three-plus innings, including two doubles from Nick Zammarelli, as Elon plated four in the first and another in the second.
Wake Forest scored the next three runs before the rainout. Gavin Sheets singled, advanced to third on a Johnny Aiello double, and scored on a passed ball. The Deacs scored a pair in the third on RBI singles from Stuart Fairchild and Keegan Maronpot.
Statistics for the game will not count unless the game is completed at a later date.
Up next, Wake Forest will break for exams before taking to the road for eight straight, starting with a three-game series against Boston College, beginning May 6.
