GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams will compete at the Aggie Invitational this Saturday, hosted by North Carolina A&T at the Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C.
Events at the one-day meet will begin at 9 a.m.
The Demon Deacons were originally scheduled to travel to at the Tennessee Relays this Thursday through Saturday, but that meet was cancelled due to continued construction and renovation of the University of Tennessee's track and its facilities.
In their last appearance at the Aggie Invitational in 2013, the Deacons had all four of their representatives place in the top 10.
Last week, the Deacs sent competitors to the High Point VertKlasse Meeting and the Florida Relays. The teams combined for 30 top-10 finishes between the two meets, including four in an elite field at the Florida Relays.
At High Point, the Demon Deacons earned three event titles. On the track, Bobby Jacowleff won the 400m hurdles participation with a time of 53.90 and Samantha Jones placed first in a field of 90 in the 1,500m, clocking in at 4:34.88.
On the field side, Jessie Merckle wowed with a school record-shattering 56.91m javelin throw. Her toss was 2.97m further than her own previous Wake Forest record and was 4.44m further than the mark of High Point's Christine Rickert, the event's runner up. The throw ranks third nationally this season.
Next week, Wake Forest will send student-athletes to both the Campbell Invitational in Buies Creek, N.C. and the Mount SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
