EUGENE, Ore. – Wake Forest freshman golfer Jennifer Kupcho climbed up the leaderboard at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship on Sunday, shooting a 5-under 67 during the third round at the Eugene Country Club. Kupcho is 7-under through three rounds and enters the final round of stroke play in a tie for second place.
Kupcho, who shot a 3-under during Friday's first round and 1-over during Saturday's second round, enters the final round tied with Dewi Weber of Miami and Cheyenne Knight of Alabama at 7-under. They are six shots behind Virginia Elena Carta of Duke, who leads at 13-under.
"Jennifer played a flawless round today," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "Her putts were dropping and she made some phenomenal up-and-downs. It was an outstanding round and it puts her in contention tomorrow.
Kupcho made five birdies during her bogey-free third round. Her round of 67 ties the lowest single-round score by a Demon Deacon at the NCAA Championship, matching Nannette Hill's first-round 67 in 2008. She is the first Wake Forest player to be under par after the first three rounds at the NCAA Championship, breaking the school 54-hole record of even-par set by Alexandra Armas in 1995.
The NCAA individual champion will be crowned after Monday's final round of stroke play. Kupcho will tee off at 5 p.m. ET. The Golf Channel will air live coverage of Monday's play beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
