EUGENE, Ore. -- Wake Forest freshman golfer Jennifer Kupcho concluded play at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship on Monday, shooting a 2-over 74 during the final round at the Eugene Country Club. Kupcho finished T-6th at the tournament at 5-under, becoming the first player in program history to conclude the NCAA Championship under par.
Kupcho posted scores of 69-73-67-74 for a total of 283 during her four rounds at the event. She shattered the school 72-hole NCAA Tournament record of 1-over (289) by Natalie Sheary in 2011.
"Jennifer played so well this week," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "She had the highest finish by a freshman in school history and to be the only player in school history to be under par at the NCAAs is a great accomplishment. She is an extremely talented young lady with a bright future and I am looking forward to the next three years with her."
Kupcho had two birdies and four bogeys during her final round. She was the highest finisher among players competing as individuals in Eugene.
"The NCAA Championship was a great experience and it was a lot of fun to represent Wake Forest," said Kupcho. "I played well and fought the best I could, but my putting definitely let me down. It was a fun ride and it was great to have my family and coaches out here supporting me."
Her sixth place finish ties for the second-best NCAA individual finish in Demon Deacon history. Laura Philo (Diaz) also had a sixth-place finish at the event in 1995, a feat only surpassed by Marta Prieto's third-place finish in 2000.
Kupcho concludes her first collegiate season with a scoring average of 73.18, a school freshman record and the second-best overall average in school history (Sierra Sims -- 73.09 in 2014-15).
