JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Ten members of the Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the NCAA East Preliminaries Thursday through Saturday at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
The University of North Florida will host the meet.
All individual events, excluding the heptathlon and decathlon, will have 48 competitors. The top 12 from every event will move on to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. from June 8-11.
Last year, Kyle Graves (1,500m), Kathleen Adair (pole vault), and Jessie Merckle (javelin) advanced to the national championships for the Deacs.
This season, indoor All-American and and school record holder Robert Heppenstall will run in the 800m at the prelims. The indoor and outdoor conference champion will be joined by teammate Simon Holden in the event.
Also on the men's side, Charlie Ionata will compete in the hammer throw, while Max Adams will take part in the discus throw. Both are coming off all-conference performances at the ACC Championships.
For the women, both Merckle and Adair will look to return to Eugene. Merckle recently claimed her third ACC javelin crown. Joining Adair in the pole vault will be Sydney White, a 2014 Second Team All-American in the event.
Kathryn Lazarchick will also be returning to the NCAA Prelims for the Deacon women, competing in the 1,500m. High jumper Alexandria Florent and hammer thrower Alva Hicks will make their debuts at the meet. Both rookies were All-ACC performers in their respective events.
