INDIANAPOLIS -- Wake Forest punched its ticket into the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament for the first time since 2007, as the Demon Deacons were selected to the regional in College Station, Texas.
Picked as an at-large bid and receiving the third seed, the Demon Deacons (34-25) will open NCAA Tournament play against second-seeded Minnesota (34-20) on Friday at 4 p.m. ET at ESPN3.
The other two teams in the regional include top-seeded and SEC champion Texas A&M (45-14) and America East champion Binghamton (30-23).
The Aggies are hosting the regional at Blue Bell Park in College Station. Texas A&M received the No. 4 national seed.
Regional play is double elimination and continues at least through Sunday, and Monday if the team coming out of the loser's bracket beats the team out of the winner's bracket on Sunday.
The winner of the College Station Regional advances onto Super Regionals, and plays the winner of the TCU Regional in a three-game series. That regional includes TCU, Arizona State, Gonzaga and Oral Roberts.
Wake Forest is playing in the state of Texas for the second straight regional. In 2007, the Deacs competed in Austin, beating Brown and falling to UC Irvine and host Texas.
The Atlantic Coast Conference matched an NCAA record with 10 bids into the tournament, three more than any other conference. Wake Forest was joined by hosts Louisville, Miami, Clemson, Florida State, Virginia and NC State, No. 2 seed Georgia Tech and No. 3 seeds Duke and Boston College.
