Chrysochos Named Regional Rookie of the Year

TEMPE, Ariz. – Wake Forest men's tennis freshman Petros Chrysochos added to his impressive first-year resume on Monday when he was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Carolina Region Rookie of the Year.
Chrysochos, a mid-year addition to the Deacs, is the second Demon Deacon to earn the honor after Noah Rubin brought home regional and national rookie of the year honors last season.
Also named the ACC Freshman of the Year, Chrysochos has reached as high as No. 19 in the national singles rankings after going 17-0 at the No. 2 singles spot in the regular season, including a 10-0 mark in ACC play. He will enter the NCAA Tournament 9-1 against ranked opponents.
Overall, Chrysochos is 21-3 in singles. The Second Team All-ACC honoree was selected to compete in the 2016 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Singles Championships in Tulsa, Okla. later this month.
In addition to his singles success, Chrysochos has climbed as high as No. 48 in doubles with Jon Ho. The pairing has played primarily at the No. 2 position and has taken down four ranked tandems. The Larnaca, Cyprus native is 17-9 overall in doubles.
All regional award honorees are eligible for the Division I national awards, which will be announced on Tuesday, May 24.
The Demon Deacons, seeded sixth overall, will begin the NCAA Tournament on Friday against Coastal Carolina at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. Michigan and East Tennessee State will join the Deacs and the Chanticleers in the regional.
