Wake Forest Storylines
Head coach Tom Walter became the only coach in the NCAA Tournament field to lead three different schools to a regional (George Washington, New Orleans, Wake Forest). All-time, he joins an exclusive group which includes Augie Garrido, Ron Polk, Larry Cochell, Jack Stallings, Andy Lopez and Sunny Galloway.
The Demon Deacons earned an at-large bid into the regional after posting a 2-2 record at the ACC Championship, beating NCAA qualifiers Duke and Virginia and falling to national seeds Louisville and Clemson.
Five Deacons earned All-ACC honors, including Will Craig (3B) and Nate Mondou (2B) on the first team, Stuart Fairchild (OF) on the second team, and Gavin Sheets (1B) and Parker Dunshee (SP) on the third team.
Wake Forest is 37-23 all-time in the NCAA playoffs and making its 12th appearance overall. The Deacs won the College World Series in 1955 and finished as runner-up in 1949.
Most recently, Wake Forest qualified in 2007 and played in Round Rock, Texas, falling to Texas and UC-Irvine and beating Brown.
The Opposition & Series History
The Deacs are 3-0 all-time against Minnesota, with wins in Minnesota in 2000 and 2003, and a home victory in 2011 in the only game under head coach Tom Walter. Minnesota finished the regular season with a 34-20 mark and 16-7 conference record, winning the Big Ten regular season.
Wake Forest's only game against the Aggies was a 12-2 loss in 2005 in the Coca-Cola Classic in Mobile, Alabama. Texas A&M is the consensus No. 1-ranked team, and is coming off winning the SEC Tournament title.
The Deacons have never played Binghamton. The Bearcats claimed the America East regular season and tournament titles and have won five of their last eight games.
On Deck
The winner of the College Station Regional will play the winner of the Fort Worth Regional, hosted by TCU.
